Happy Friday!
This month we’re thinking about perseverance, what it means, and why we don’t give up. The Christian life was never painted as a life free from strife. In fact, Jesus and His brother James promise we will face trials and tribulations.
Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
The good news is that Jesus HAS overcome the world. We have peace in Him, and God doesn’t waste our pain. We can trust that every trial and every struggle is for our good and has eternal value (Romans 8:28).
James 1:2 says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
Wow! What a promise! This is the purpose in our trials. We are becoming perfect. We are becoming like Jesus.
The definition of perseverance, according to google, is this: persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
But what does Scripture say?
Over the next four weeks, we’ll delve into the following Scriptures and find the takeaway:
-1 Corinthians 9:24-27
-Galatians 6:7-10
-Philippians 3:12-14
-2 Timothy 2:1-13
What do you find most comforting about Jesus’ words in John 16:33?
