Colossians 4

Happy Friday!

Welcome to the final chapter of Colossians! We’ll be highlighting and discussing a few verses that stood out to me in chapter four. Comment below which verses stood out to you! I’d love to read how God spoke to you in your reading.

Colossians chapter four, verse:

2—Continue… as if we’re already in prayer or continually in prayer.

3—Great prayer for us to pray for someone who is a missionary or who is seeking to share the gospel. Pray for God to: open to them/us a door for the word; to make it clear to the receiver of the word; and how to speak/what words to speak.

5—Walk—a command. We are to walk in wisdom. Our walk reveals our pattern and lifestyle. What does our walk speak to outsiders? What do they see by watching how we speak to those around us? How we spend our time and money? What we talk about? All of these aspects of our walk speak something about Jesus to outsiders.

5—How should we walk? We should walk in wisdom towards outsiders (outsiders of the faith or unbelievers). Why? Because the way we walk out our faith could be the only example they ever see of Jesus. We should make the most of the opportunities we are given to share the hope we have in Jesus with those who don’t believe.

6—Great prayer! May our speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, knowing how to respond to each person. Seasoned with salt—we are the salt and light of the world (Jesus calls believers this in Matt. 5:13-16) and salt makes things more tasteful. A nonbeliever should want more of Christ because we have presented Him in a manner that creates a desire for more.

12—Another great prayer for fellow believers. Pray that they may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.

17—A word of direction and affirmation to a real person from Colossae who would be reading this letter.

18—It is believed that Paul would dictate his letters to a scribe and then sign the farewell in his own hand to assure the readers that false teachers were not writing under his name.
