Happy Friday!
Welcome to chapter three of Colossians! We’ll be highlighting and discussing a few verses that stood out to me. Comment below which verses stood out to you! I’d love to read how God spoke to you in your reading.
Chapter three, verse:
1—Seek godly things. It’s a command.
2—Set your mind on things that are above. Another command.
5—Put to death—strong language and another command! Don’t play around with these—kill them!
5-10—We put all these things off. As if they are clothes, we take them off. We do not practice them.
10—Our new self is renewed in the knowledge of God.
11—There is no room for racism, sexism, or judgment in the gospel.
12—We put these on instead! Like with new clothes, we shred the old in verses 5-10 and dress ourselves new in Christ with these: compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience; bearing with one another; forgiving one another; and above all, putting on love which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
14—Love binds it all together.
15—The peace of Christ should rule in our hearts. Paul’s word here for rule is an athletic term meaning to referee or umpire.
15—Be thankful. Gratitude opens our hearts to God’s peace and enables us to put on love. Grasping at how much Christ did for us and the love of God the Father is the key to putting on love and allowing peace to rule our hearts.
17—Whatever. That means everything we do. Small or large. Seemingly impactful or not. Do it all in the name of Jesus and give him thanks.
23—Again—Whatever. Whatever we do, we are to work with all our hearts as though we are working for the Lord because, as it goes on to say, we are indeed serving Jesus in all we do.
