Colossians 1

Updated: Nov 23

Happy Friday!

I’m so excited to read through Colossians with you this month! Each Friday I will highlight and discuss a few verses that stood out to me.

Today, we’re starting with chapter one.

Verse:

1—This is a letter to the saints in Colossae—real people in a real place who had real struggles.

3—Not if we pray, but when. Paul was “always” praying for the believers in Colossae.

4—The gospel is the word of truth.

9-10—What can we pray for others and ourselves? For the filling with knowledge of His will, in spiritual wisdom and understanding. Why? So that we may walk in a manner worthy of Jesus; so that we fully please Him; to bear fruit in every good work; to increase in the knowledge of God; to be strengthened with all power by Jesus’ might; so that we may endure with patience and joy.

15-19—The supremacy of Christ! Such powerful verses!

19—He was fully God and fully man.

How did He make peace? By His blood on the cross.

21-22—How has He reconciled us? By His death. Why? To present us holy and blameless—above reproach.

26-27—The mystery is Christ in us!

29—Paul is saying he does not toil and struggle in his own energy, but with the energy and power of Christ within him. We also should look to Christ to provide our strength as we work for His glory.

Verse 15-19 are some of my favorites because of the power they proclaim of Christ’s absolute supremacy and sole sufficiency over all things.

Wow! Which verses stood out to you?
