The most influential person in your life is you.
Let that line sink in.
The most influential person in your life is you! The words you speak to yourself have serious power. If we aren’t careful, we’ll digest the words we say about ourselves—the bitter, frustrated, angry, unforgiving words we say about ourselves, and those words will penetrate deep into our hearts. When we are listening to the words the world has to say about us instead of the truth of Scripture, we will often be filled of shame and guilt, feeling unworthy and unlovable. Or perhaps the opposite. Feeling like, “I’ve got this” or “I don’t need God’s help” or full of pride and total self-sufficiency.
Either heart posture is a problem if we’re believers.
We must speak the truth of Scripture to ourselves. Especially in those moments when we hear lies of condemnation and begin to let them settle in our hearts. Some ways we can do this is by reading God’s word aloud and memorizing Scripture. The declarations below can help because thanks be to God…
In Christ, we are secure.
Romans 8:1-2 I am free from condemnation.
Romans 8:28 I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances.
Romans 8:31-39 I am free from any condemnation brought against me and I cannot be separated from the love of God.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 I have been established, anointed, and sealed by God.
Colossians 3:1-4 I am hidden with Christ in God.
Philippians 1:6 I am confident that God will complete the good work He started in me.
Philippians 3:20 I am a citizen of heaven.
2 Timothy 1:7 I have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
1 John 5:18 I am born of God and the evil one cannot touch me.
