Sheep: Lessons from the Good Shepherd

Happy Friday and welcome back!

Today, we’ll wrap up this series with a final thought on sheep and the Good Shepherd.

I wouldn’t consider this series complete without mentioning the very familiar Psalm 23. David writes in verse one, “The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing.”

Wow! Let that truth marinate in your heart. In Christ, we lack nothing we need for this life.

He paints a beautiful picture of being led, protected, and guided by the Great Shepherd.

-David expresses his confidence in God’s loving care (verse 1).

-David has no fear because the Good Shepherd has proven His provision through past faithfulness (verses 2-4).

-As saints, we are comforted. The Shepherd guides us to well-laid and well-placed pastures (verses 2-4).

-From the good gifts of God’s bounty, David counts the consistency and endlessness of His mercy (verse 5).

-David confidently relies on the continuance of God’s favors, and we can too (verse 6).

-David resolutely clings to God and his duty to worship and serve him forever (verse 6).

What is your favorite line from Psalm 23? Mine is absolutely verse 1, but I also love the description of quiet waters, His leading down right paths, and even in our darkest valleys, we needn’t fear for He remains with us. And verse 2, “He refreshes my soul.” This psalm is not just beautiful words, but a picture of our dependence on Christ.

Did you enjoy this series? I hope so! Drop a sheep in the comments if you did. Thanks for being here!
