Perseverance, Striving Towards the Goal

Happy Friday!

We are continuing our series on perseverance by diving into Philippians 3:12-14.

Paul is speaking to us about striving towards the goal. What goal is he referring to? I believe we all have a single goal. It may be cloaked in many forms, but ultimately, we are all living out the Great Commission. Some of us are doing that at home with our children. Some are in the workplace. Others are on the mission field across the world. Some are on a school campus or in a classroom. But if we boil down our goal, we are sharing the gospel, and we are living out the gospel.

Here’s our takeaway from these verses in Philippians:

-press on toward the day when you will be all God wants you to be

-forget the past

-strain toward what is ahead

It’s important to note, “Forgetting what’s behind.” In my own life, I can get bogged down on remembering things from my past whether those are good or bad things. Sometimes its helpful to look back. We learn from mistakes that we have lived through. But if we live in the past, we are missing the present. We should be, as Paul taught in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, straining toward that prize as though we are running to win it. We should be living in the moment, making the most of what’s right in front of us and not missing out by dwelling in the past.

How are you pressing toward “the goal” of living out the Great Commission in your own life?
