“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
But God. While we were still sinners, Christ chose to die for us.
Think about Jesus’ words on the cross in Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Can you imagine saying this about your accuser? The person who nailed your hands and feet to a wooden cross? Spat on you? Cursed you? Mocked you?
God’s love knows no bounds, and we, the sinners, are unworthy of it. Yet we find this phrase: but God. He loves. He extends mercy and grace. Where would we be without His love? His mercy?
What is your takeaway from this “but God” verse?
