Happy Friday!
Today, we’re continuing our July series by discussing, why is love so important? Last week we looked at what Jesus had to say about love in the gospel of Matthew, and this week, we’ll look at what Jesus said in the gospel of John.
John’s gospel has the most the say about love, which makes sense considering that John’s other letter, 1 John, is often called the book of love. Below, I’ve summarized what Jesus said throughout the gospel of John and listed the references.
-Jesus proved His love for us by dying in our place on the cross so that we could live eternally with Him. (John 3:14, 15; 15:13, 14)
-God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die in our place. (John 3:16)
-God loves Jesus, His son. (John 5:20; 10:17)
-Those who refuse Jesus do not have God’s love. (John 5:41-44)
-Jesus’ love extends to each and every person. (John 10:42 and Matthew 5:40-42)
-We are not to love the praise of men. (John 12:43)
-We are love one another. (John 13:34; 35)
-We express love to God when we obey Him. (John 14:21; 15:10)
-Jesus loves God. (John 14:31)
-Jesus loves us just as God loves Jesus. (John 15:9)
-The love between Jesus and God is the perfect example of how we are to love others. (John 17:21-26)
-God wants everyone to know how much He loves them. (John 17:23)
-Jesus wants our love to genuine. (John 21:15-17)
Jesus also says this in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” Jesus demonstrated this love for us by laying down His life for us, His friends.
Which of Jesus’ teachings on love speaks to you or stands out?
