Happy Friday!
Today, we’re continuing our July series by discussing, why is love so important? Last week we looked at a few verses about love and dissected Jesus’ encounter with the teacher of the law in Mark 12:28.
Jesus had quite a bit to say about love in the gospels. Below, I’ve summarized the verses in the gospel of Matthew and listed the reference. I would encourage you to read the Scripture references if you have time. Jesus’ words are powerful and such a great reminder of how much God loves for us, cares for us, and provides for us.
-We are to love one another and demonstrate that love. (Matthew 5:40-42; 10:42; also John 13:34-35)
-God loves even those who hate Him and we are to do the same. (Matthew 5:43-47 also Luke 6:35)
-God must be our first love. (Matthew 6:24; 10:37)
-Because God loves us, He cares and provides all of our needs. He knows them before we even ask. (Matthew 6:25-34)
-We are to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. (Matthew 22:37)
-We are not to love selfish recognition. (Matthew 23:6)
-Jesus wants us to love Him through both good and bad times. (Matthew 26:31-35)
Which of Jesus’ teachings on love speaks to you or stands out?
