God Can Use Common People, Part 3

Writer: lesliemoorewriteslesliemoorewrites

Happy Friday!

The last two weeks we’ve been studying ordinary people from the Old Testament that God used to bring about His will and purpose. This week, let’s head over to the New Testament. Below, I’ll list the people from the NT, who they are, what titles they were given based on their choices or occupation, and how God chose to carry out His will.

This is a very small snapshot of these New Testament greats. Many pages are devoted to giving small details and quotes from their journey. So, if you’re interested in reading more, I’ve included the Scripture reference for you.

1.     Mary—a peasant girl. Mary’s account, the mother of Jesus, can be found in Luke 1:27-38. God chose Mary to be the mother of the Christ.

2.     Matthew—tax collector. Matthew has detailed his time with Jesus in his own book, the Gospel of Matthew. God chose Matthew to be an apostle and a Gospel writer.

3.     Luke—a Greek physician. Luke has also detailed his time with Jesus in his own book, the Gospel of Luke. God chose Luke to be an apostle and a Gospel writer.

4.     Peter—a fisherman. Peter first appears on the scene in Matthew 4:18-20. God chose Peter to be an apostle, a leader of the early church, and to write two of the New Testament letters.

5.     Paul—a Hebrew Pharisee. Paul’s story begins in Acts 7:58, and his testimony is recorded in Acts 9, 22, and 26. God chose Paul as an instrumental worker for the early church by writing letters, planting churches, and teaching the gospel.

Can you think of any other ordinary New Testament people I missed? God can use each of us to do His will and accomplish amazing things for His glory!
