A Beautiful Thing

She will be remembered

The disciples, especially Judas as John points out, scolded Mary for her lavish display of worship. But Jesus said that wherever the gospel would be preached, what she has done will also be told in remembrance of her.

What a gift to Mary. She is remembered for pouring out all she had for Jesus in this act of worship. She knew Him as the resurrection and the life, and there is no amount of money on earth to measure Jesus.

Jon Bloom on DesiringGod.org has a beautiful article about Mary titled, “Jesus Wants You to Waste Your Life”. He says it so well, “Jesus wants you to waste your life like Mary wasted her perfume. For it is no true waste. It is true worship. A poured out life of love for Jesus that counts worldly gain as loss displays how precious he really is. It preaches to a bewildered, disdainful world that Christ is gain and the real waste is gaining the world’s perfumes and losing one’s soul in the process (Matthew 16:26).”

Mary is remembered for the beautiful thing she did to Jesus. What will you be remembered for? How can we “waste our life” for Jesus?
