Indignant

“And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant saying, ‘Why this waste?’” Matthew 26:8

“There were some who said to themselves indignantly, ‘Why was the ointment wasted like that? For this ointment could’ve been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.’ And they scolded her.” Mark 14:4-5

Indignant— feeling or showing anger or annoyance at what is perceived as unfair treatment.

The disciples, especially Judas, whom John points out, were outraged by Mary’s lavish expression of worship. And they scolded her.

But what did Jesus say?

“Leave her alone. Why do you trouble the woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.”

I think we must be careful and not think indignantly about others. Perhaps they are doing a beautiful thing for Jesus.

What do you think about Jesus’ response? About the reaction by the disciples?
