What is God's will for me? Part 3

Happy Friday and welcome back!

Today, we’re continuing our series titled, “What is God’s will for me?” If you missed the introduction, scroll back to the first post of the series to catch up.

This might be obvious, but let’s discuss what the will of God is not.

Short and sweet, Scripture is clear on many topics. We can look first to The Ten Commandments and from there, both the Old and New Testaments are full of examples of what to do and what not to do.

Sometimes we don’t even need to pray or ask God what to do because His Word has already made the decision clear. For a simple example, many Scripture verses, including The Ten Commandments, teach against speaking lies. We also can find verses in Psalm and Proverbs, along with examples from the lives of believers and non-believers in Scripture that further explain the consequences of lying. So, when presented with a dilemma where we can stretch the truth to make ourselves look better, or be honest, Scripture is clear we should choose to be honest and tell the truth.

Of course, Jesus summed up the whole Law and the Prophets with one verse, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40.

Jesus also says, “If you love me, you’ll keep my commands.” John 14:15

I also think of Phil. 2:3, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.”

And, Phil 2:14-18, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”

When we are unsure how to proceed, considering these two verses is a good place to start in evaluating our hearts.

When faced with a decision, has the will of God been obvious to you? Have you ever faced a situation where your decision was easy because Scripture is clear on the matter?
