Happy Friday and welcome back!

Today, we’re continuing our series titled, “What is God’s will for me?” by diving into another Scripture verse in the NT. If you missed last week’s introduction, scroll back to the first post of the series to catch up.

1 Peter 2:15, “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”

A few takeaways:

-Our actions, not our words, should be the loudest. We speak volumes by what we do, not by what we say we will do, or by what we say our intentions were (often to rectify a situation).

-Our actions, our following Scripture, should vindicate us, not our speech. I’m sure there are some exceptions to this, but often when we are in line with the Spirit and “doing good”—following Scripture guidelines for everything from friendships, to marriage, to business practice, the history of our choices speak for us.

-“Ignorance” in this verse in the Greek refers to someone who is self-caused ignorant, meaning they are senseless, thoughtless. This Greek word only occurs one other time in 1 Corinthians 15:34.

-“Foolish people” in this verse in the Greek means moral reprobation.

-Biblical commentaries suggest this verse was more of a political nature as the Roman Empire at this time in history was heavily persecuting the church.

What jumps out at you about this verse from 1 Peter?
