Did you know we are in a war?
It might be a spiritual one, but it is no less a war. I heard a pastor say once that we should have our strongest warrior at the forefront of our mind. For this is where the battle begins.
So, what occupies your mind? When it is idle, what does it drift to? For me, I am constantly trying to figure out how to get it all done. My pastor says, “If the devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.”
The to-do list seems to grow endlessly and it’s never done. I grow weary and feel worthless because I always seem to be behind and behind others. I compare.
What we think about can tell us so much about where we are with the Lord. Have you stopped to check your thoughts? Are they Christ-honoring?
Paul writes a way to turn them around in 2 Corinthians 10:5. He says we must “Take every thought captive to Christ.” I love the imagery here of taking our thoughts captive. What a great word usage! We capture them, we evaluate them, and then, if they are bad in any way, we send them on their way.
Another great verse to evaluate your thoughts is Philippians 4:8, “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
I pray we have the courage to take captive our thoughts for the sake of Christ and lean into the greater things He has for us.
