Motivational Quotes and What Scripture Says

“I can do hard things.”

If I’m being honest, I actually like this quote. The motivation behind the quote is good, at least from my perspective. “I can do hard things…” Imagine telling yourself this every time you are staring up at the jagged edge of a metaphorical mountain, wondering how to reach the top when you can’t even see it. We’ve all been there before and having motivation was key to beginning.

Speaking affirmation to yourself isn’t bad, but speaking Scripture is better. Making sure the words we speak to ourselves line up with Scripture is very important. You could easily edit this quote to mirror Phil 4:13: “I can do hard things all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

It's also important to remember Christ’s strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Scripture attests to this truth: God uses the least likely person to best display His glory. He doesn’t choose the one the world would choose. The wisest, the strongest, or the fastest—though He absolutely could and does. But we see He uses the weak, and “ill-equipped” more often.

How do you feel about the quote, “I can do hard things”? Do you have an example from Scripture of God using the least or ill-prepared to accomplish something great for His name?
