Love is Not Affectionate Feeling

“Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person’s ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.” C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

Do you have people in your life that you feel this way about? This quote is from The Four Loves. I can say this is true for family and friends. The hard part is trusting that the mountain of hardship you see blocking the apparent path is there for their eternal good, even if it causes immense pain. That leads me to a Charles Spurgeon quote, “God is too good to be unkind, and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.”

How do you interpret this quote? What does it say to you?
