Is God in the Small Things?

Happy Friday!

Last week, we discussed a staff, a fleece, and a jawbone. Such an odd collection and yet God used these simple objects to accomplish His will.

Today, we’ll continue by looking at two accounts about trumpets, and another about oil.

1. Trumpets

In Joshua 6, God commanded the Israelites in the oddest battle strategy. March around the walls of Jericho over the course of a week, and on the final day, to walk around the walls seven times. On the final walk, blow your trumpets and make noise. With this final blow of the trumpet, the walls of Jericho fell.

2. Trumpets (again!), jars, and torches

In Judges 7:19-22, God used trumpets, jars, and torches to startle the enemy of the Israelites, the Midianites, and claim victory.

3. Oil

I love this story in 2 Kings 4:1-7. A widow goes to the prophet Elisha in desperate need. He commands her to gather as many jars as possible from every place, even neighbors. A miracle happens as she pours the tiny amount she has left from her own jar. The oil continues to pour until every jar is filled. Then the oil stopped. She sells the oil and lives on the remainder. A beautiful demonstration of God’s power to provide.

Has God ever used a simple object in your life? Provided through a miracle?
