How to Pray for Others

Welcome back and Happy Friday!

Last week we discussed the purpose of prayer, when we should pray, and what we should pray about. This week we’re diving into Colossians, studying how Paul prayed for the believers at Colossae.

If you have a moment, read Colossians 1:3-12 as a referencing for the list below:

1.      Be thankful for their faith and changed lives (v. 3).

2.      Ask God to help them know what He wants them to do (v. 9).

3.      Ask God to give them deep spiritual understanding (v. 9).

4.      Ask God to help them live for Him (v. 10).

5.      Ask God to give them more knowledge of Himself (v. 10).

6.      Ask God to give them strength for endurance (v. 11).

7.      Ask God to fill them with all joy, strength, and thankfulness (v. 11 & 12).

Why should we pray for other believers in this way? Verse 10 states, “…so as to walk in a manner worth of the Lord, fully pleasing him, bearing much fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge to God.” Verse 11 goes on to say that we are strengthened for the purpose of enduring hardships with patience and joy. What a powerful prayer for a friend who is walking through a difficult season.

What specifically do you pray for others? What has God taught you about prayer?
