God in Our Waiting

Have you ever been in a season of waiting? Waiting for the job offer to come through. Waiting for the promotion. Waiting for the doctor to call with the test results. Waiting for the loan to clear at the bank. Waiting for the pass/fail score that will determine your career path. Waiting for 39 weeks so you can meet your little one. Waiting to hear from the realtor. Waiting for a terrible day to end. Waiting for a season of grief to pass. Waiting for the two weeks so you can quit a horrible job. Waiting for the sun to rise on a long, dark night. Waiting for summer to finally arrive or the leaves to signal the start of autumn. Waiting for winter to pass and the first buds of new life to sprout from the ground. We’re all in different seasons of waiting and sometimes waiting is hard.

But God. Two of the best words in Scripture.

But God has plans for us in our waiting. Oftentimes, as we’ll see in Scripture, it is during the waiting that God is preparing us, teaching us, changing us, and growing us.

Beautiful things happen in the wait.

Before a plant can break through the darkness of the soil and into the sunlight with a green bud, life and growth are happening under the earth. We can’t see the growth as it unfolds in the dark secret places, but the proof is in the beautiful bud. So much is happening, so much progress, and no eye can see it. It takes faith every harvest season for farmers to plant their seeds. They are trusting that growth will happen in ways unseen. And every bud that surfaces is a symbol of hope.

The same is true with us. We are growing and changing in ways that others can’t see during our seasons of waiting. But God sees. He’s working in us, making us more like His son, Jesus, with every season and every trial that comes our way. He has a purpose in it all—even in the wait.

Are you in a season of waiting? I am. I’d love to know yours!
